Ksan Place: A Southside Community Space

Ksan Place is a 2500 square foot, recently renovated, space intended to enable community programming on the south side of Terrace. It offers a fully functional kitchen, a large multipurpose room and a smaller group room.  It sits behind the Emergency Shelter on Hall Street and acts as a hub for activities around Ksan's Food Security Programs including the Community Greenhouse and Gardens.

A number of nutriton based programs operate at Ksan Place - a Community Kitchen, with kitchen equipment and supplies made possible through a grant from DASH BC, is one of those programs. A community kitchen is a group of people who get together on a regular basis to cook healthy, nutritious meals. From recipe selection, to shopping, cooking, and clean-up, everyone participates. Within the groups, participants find fun, friendships, and the tools to stretch their food dollars. The quantity of food that is prepared is divided among group members to take home.

A children’s area, furnished and decorated through cash donations, is a safe, friendly and comfortable spot for children to spend quiet time.

These, and a number of other programs operating at Ksan Place, fit within one of the common assumptions of Ksan Place neighbourhood programming - programs which promote and develop healthy lifestyles that include balanced physical, emotional and intellectual and social
development.
