Employment Suitability
What kind of person works in the social service industry? Usually, someone with a social conscience, a caring personality and an easy going demeanor.
Support workers hold the majority of positions with Ksan - they are needed at both shelters. While, for those positions, a Social Service diploma is a plus, it isn't always a necessity. Ksan's Support Workers range from former retail workers to mothers whose children have left home to former forest industry workers. If you aren't sure if it's for you - feel free to come by for coffee, meet and chat with someone who does the job. Training is provided, and it can be a very rewarding career.
General Employment Information
Ksan employees work in a unionized environment under the Community Social Services Collective Agreement (BCGEU). Wages are determined by that agreement and include a generous benefit package. Some positions at the two shelters (Transition and Emergency) involve shift work. Successful applicants must undergo a criminal record search indicating a violence free past and sign an Oath of Confidentiality.
